Complaint
There is a ban on importation of Soya bean oil packed in bottles by Zimbabwe. Requirement by Zimbabwe for import permit and license for soya oil and detergents from Egypt
Status note
On 8th February 2016, Egypt Focal point reported that the NTB be considered closed on the basis that Egypt's National Monitoring Committee did not receive any details from the Exporting Company.
Progress update note
1. During the 2nd meeting of the COMESA sub committee of Heads of Customs meeting held from 19-20 June 2015, Zimbabwe advised that the NTB was an internal control measure regulating trade in this product and that it had been in existence since 1993. The instrument was being administered by ministries of Industry and Commerce and that of Agriculture. Egypt reported that Zimbabwe stooped the importation of the product and yet the importer had been issued with the relevant import permits upon which he gave the Egyptian manufacturer specific packaging instructions. The Egyptian exporter was therefore stuck with the product following the abrupt stoppage of the imports by Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe was expected to respond to this update from Egypt.

2. On 19th November 2014, Focal Point Zimbabwe reported that Zimbabwe had not banned importation of bottle soya bean oil. However, currently there is need for an import license obtained from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to allow importation of the product. The focal point was going to get more information from the complainant to facilitate proper follow up on the issue
