Progress update note
1. The ministers decided that Partner States should recognize certificates issued by accredited institutions of other Partner States.
EAC SPS Protocol was signed in July 2013 and once ratified by Partner States it will address the NTB.
The NTB will be resolved once the SPS protocol is ratified.
The meeting noted that Kenya recognizes Phyto-Sanitary certificates issued by Partner States for tea destined for Mombasa tea auction.

2. At the 16th EAC regional forum on non tariff barriers held in Kigali in December 2014, EAC Secretariat reported that the ministers decided that Partner States should recognize certificates issued by accredited institutions of other Partner States. EAC SPS Protocol was signed in July 2013 and once ratified by Partner States it will address this NTB. The NTB will therefore be resolved once the SPS protocol is ratified.

2.At the Tripartite NTBs Online Reporting, Monitoring and Eliminating Mechanism Meeting to Launch the SMS Reporting Tool, Kenya and Uganda reported that the two countries were scheduled to have bilateral meetings to resolve the NTB. A progress report will be submitted at the NTBs forum scheduled fro June 2013.
